And done!! 2 months of Keto!
I'm glad I went through this experience of limiting and expanding my diet, living with no sugar, flour, carbs, starchy veggies, almost no fruit was surprisingly easy for me. for the first couple of days I found it unusual having no bread for breakfast and no rice for dinner, but when I started making all those new tasty recipes I had no problem giving them up. snacking on nuts and dark chocolate instead of sweets was enjoyable for me, it sure is surprising how your body can adapt to changes quickly, if you put up with it you can sure change bad eating habits and your body will no longer crave bad food!
now let's talk about the results; (the % on how much did I feel a difference.)
- Skin %50 better after keto! acne come and goes but a lot less than before, redness is still there just like before, the over all look of it is noticeably better! it's weird that I can't really put my finger on the change, it just looks really healthier now, like having a filter on. it feels good to have better skin I have to say, I'm very thankful for that!
- Energy %70 better! specially in the morning! I used to feel that lack of energy after waking up and even after breakfast for like 2 to 3 hours. I'm fully awake when I wake up now, and I love it!
- Brain %20 I can definitely focus for longer hours now but to say the truth I'm not really sure if it's because of Keto or because of practicing discipline! doing keto made me a more disciplined person which I always wanted to be! but maybe that's because of the fact that I'm committing to something for a relatively long period of time and not really because of what I'm eating.. but I was really looking forward to have that super brain.. I don't think I did.. what is a super brain really?..
- weight %60 yes you will lose weight if you cut carbs and eat lots of fat! that is now a fact! but you will not be under weight skinny cause that is not the healthy body weight for you. you will be healthy fit! which is perfect.
- Hunger %100 I was really surprised by this result, I definitely don't feel hunger that often. I easily go through my day without thinking of food, one meal of omelets and spinach can fill and fuel me up all day which is good news (since Ramadan is almost here) the thing about hunger is, I think most of us are not used to the feeling of not being hungry which is weird to say.. but it's like we go through "starving" to "I'm too full It's uncomfortable" most of the time, that middle stage closer to hunger were you're feeling good but could eat a snack stage, get used to that feeling (without having that snack) and your life will get more comfortable, feels great!
- Mood %? I can't really tell because I'm a mother, we have those little mood pokers who will not be silenced! I can tolerate it longer I think, but once you're angry you're angry! but it goes away quickly as well so..? but I'm definitely happy on my kid's bedtime! (hi5 other mamas)
- Health and immune system %70 It's hard to measure this one, but most of the time when your kid gets sick you will get sick as well, it's an unwritten rule. it happened once during those 2 months where my husband and daughter got sick and I didn't catch it! I'm calling that a success! but other than that I did feel lighter and stronger. so yes!
- cravings %98 I can't lie and say I didn't feel like having cake or a cookie from time to time, but it was never a strong need. most of the time I didn't even think I was missing on anything really.. sweets smells good, looks good but no thank you! I was fine. after I was done with Keto I had a piece of raspberry and almond pie, had a mochi with sweet red beans filling and a ginger cookie, they all tasted too sweet for me! not the enjoyable sweet.. I didn't enjoy the mochi as much I used to, I forced myself to finish the pie, and I couldn't go through a third bite of that cookie! my sweet tooth is forever ruined now ._.
-did I do it right?
The diet part was on point! so was the sleep. (getting into a better sleep routine)
I would take a "C" on the exercise part though, the program stated 3 types of exercising - flexibility -Aerobics -Pilates. I did the flexibility part daily, but I did not have a consistent schedule on the other 2. I could've done better. exercise help with the weight loss and the mental clarity, if you're planning on going Keto add those 3 types of exercise to your schedule and you might end up with better results than mine. Also the stress management part is extremely important, if you're stressed all the time your body cannot produce Ketones cause of the insulin in your blood. we had a tough time during those 2 months, so even though I was eating right I don't think I was producing ketones like I should've. even so, the results were clear.
In the end I have to state that after reading and researching a lot about the Keto diet, even though I recommend you try it and feel those benefits yourself, It is recommended to NOT be on a keto diet all the time! the best strategy would be going keto for 2 to 3 months each year as an annual thing. having the healthy recommended amount of carbs in your diet activates useful bacteria in your stomach, and that is good for you. and when you decide to go for it, please don't just follow a random schedule or a youtube video without doing your research cause if you don't do it right, it can harm you! So that was my experience with Keto. I will definitely keep on doing a lot of the things I learned along the way. will keep away from bad oils and extra sweet treats (I don't think I can handle those anymore anyway), try to consume carbs only during lunch or the middle of the day, and not eat after a certain hour. also to eat when I'm hungry and not when I feel like it. our bodies are a beautiful gift from god and we aught to take care of it.
